Amendment seven is about noncriminal lawsuits, ususally having to do with private property rights. That is still important and should be trialed bya jury.

The right of trial by Jury shall be perserved.

"In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law." - U.S. Constitution 7th Amendment

As common law provided, the judge could set aside (or nullify) a jury verdict that he deemed went contrary to the evidence or the law.

May the court enter "judgment as a matter of law" or otherwise set aside the jury's findings.
